She Might Be Pregnant. What Now?

Whether she just told you or you are waiting for a test result together, you may be feeling pressure to say the right thing or fix the situation. You do not need to have every answer today. Start with reliable information and an honest conversation.

Start With the Facts

A late period or pregnancy symptoms do not always mean she is pregnant. The first step is pregnancy testing.

Bloom provides no-cost, medical-grade pregnancy testing administered by medical staff. If her result is positive, she may also qualify for a limited obstetric ultrasound. The scan can estimate how far along she is, identify the pregnancy’s location, and determine whether it appears to be progressing.

This information can give both of you a better understanding of the situation before considering what to do next.

How Can You Support Her?

You may have strong feelings about the pregnancy, but this is also happening inside her body. She may need time to understand what she thinks before hearing what everyone else wants.

You can support her by:

  • Listening before offering solutions
  • Asking what she needs from you right now
  • Avoiding pressure, threats, or ultimatums
  • Learning about abortion, adoption, and parenting
  • Following through on what you say you will do
  • Respecting her need for privacy

You do not have to pretend you are unaffected. Your questions and concerns matter too, and you deserve a place to talk through them.

What If You Disagree?

You may not agree about the pregnancy or what should happen next. Trying to settle everything in one emotional conversation can make it harder for either of you to think clearly.

Begin with what can be confirmed. Encourage her to schedule an appointment, learn more about the pregnancy, and get straightforward information about her options. Then focus on communicating honestly without turning the conversation into a contest.

What to Expect at Bloom

You are welcome to come to Bloom with your partner. Because her medical information is private, portions of the appointment may take place without you in the room.

While she meets with our medical staff, you may have the opportunity to speak with a male advocate. This gives you a separate place to ask questions, talk candidly, and consider how you want to respond.

Bloom does not provide or refer for abortions. Our staff can provide information about abortion, adoption, and parenting.

If You Are Considering Parenting

Fatherhood may not have been part of your immediate plan. You may be wondering how a baby could affect work, school, finances, housing, or your relationship.

Bloom’s men’s advocacy services can help you think through those concerns. If you and your partner choose to parent, additional assistance may be available through Seeds of Success, including parenting education and practical baby items for program participants.

You Have a Role in What Happens Next

You cannot make her decision for her, but your response still matters. Showing up, listening, and learning the facts can shape how both of you move through an uncertain moment.

Bloom offers confidential services at no cost in Richmond and Midlothian.
